Keeping Your Child Healthy This School Year

Keeping Your Child Healthy This School Year

Expert Author Barb Lulay

The school year has started. No matter what grades your children are entering, they cannot avoid the bugs that they are exposed to on a daily basis. Staying healthy can be very difficult, but not impossible.

Help your children start the year off right with these tips:

  • Make sure your child gets enough sleep - Children and teenagers need at least nine hours of sleep each night to promote good health. Enforce an earlier bedtime a few weeks before school starts to get your child's internal "clock" adjusted to the new time.
  • Reinforce regular hand washing - This is one of the easiest, yet more effective ways to keep contaminants away from your child's body. Hand washing protects against colds and the flu and many other possible diseases. Instruct them to wash their hands before they eat and after using the bathroom.
  • Make sure your child has a healthy breakfast - A healthy breakfast is absolutely essential for getting your child off on the right foot this school year. It is a proven fact that children who eat breakfast participate more in school, learn better, and do not miss as much school. Protein meal shakes are an excellent addition to any breakfast. They contain essential vitamins and minerals that your child might miss even though they are eating breakfast. They are an excellent source of dietary fiber and protein. Meal shakes are also rich in calcium, which is essential to a healthy body. Make sure to purchase all natural protein shakes that are made specifically for children and are from a reputable all natural company.
  • Provide your child with all natural Omega 3 supplements - This is something that the majority of parents do not even think of giving their children. Omega 3 for children supplements have amazing benefits for your child's physical and mental health. Give your children ultra-pure DHA that will significantly improve memory, concentration, and mind skills.
  • Give your child an all natural children's multi-vitamin - An all natural children's vitamin will help to ensure your child is getting the vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy body. Look for an all natural multi-vitamin that contains lactoferrin. This is a protein that helps children keep their immune systems "supercharged." There are many all natural companies that provide adequate multi-vitamins; however, there is only one company that offers a children's vitamin with lactoferrin.
  • Switch to green cleaners - Conventional cleaning products can be dangerous and can be the cause of many health risks. Conventional cleaning products have been linked to asthma, cancer, hormone disruption, neurotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, and many more health problems. These health problems are caused from inhaling or absorbing in the skin and then entering the blood stream. This is not something many people think of when they hear that conventional cleaners are dangerous. They likely think of the immediate dangers of chemically based cleaners, such as: burns to the skin and eyes and immediate lung damage from breathing in the chemicals causing them not to be able to breathe directly after contact. Switching to green cleaners is the best way to ensure you are doing your best to provide your family with the healthiest home environment possible. Green cleaners are not only safer, but are also more effective than conventional cleaners.
Keep your family safe and give your children the best start possible to this school year by providing them with a safe home environment and giving them the all natural supplements they need to thrive. Simply telling them that you love them with a big hug and kiss can go a long way in helping your child start the year off right.

Workout Recovery Drinks: Who is Best - Gatorade, Pop, Lemonade

So what do you think are the best workout recovery drinks for you?  For your children?  What is the best refereshing drinks for your children?

After reading "The Negative Effects of Pop" that we posted the other day, many people contacted us and shared their views.  Here are some of the comments I received.   'It's ok, my child drinks lemonade...That doesn't affect my child's health.  He drinks Gatorade/Powerade...Oh, I never let my child drink pop.  She only drinks Hawaiian Punch or Gatorade. That's healthy, isn't it."

THESE ARE TOTAL MYTHS!   THESE DRINKS ARE JUST AS BAD FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILD AS DRINKING  CAFFEINE FREE SOFT DRINKS.   How many times have you heard phrases like those listed above?  I hear them every time I say my children aren't allowed pop. In fact, many of these so called healthy drinks  have an even higher acidity  than some pops.  Choose healthy drinks and let your children benefit from the foods they consuming.  Their bodies are growing constantly internally and externally:  please don't feed them products that are harmful and addictive.

In prior articles, you may have already read how Shaklee's workout recovery drinks are  67% more effective than other leading brands anyway.  This natural energy/rehydration drink called Performance is not only an ideal workout recovery drink but also safe hydrating/endurance drink made with all natural balanced ingredients.  It uses a patented formula of balanced carbohydrates to give you the best results.  Best of all, you can benefit from what the Olympians use for your everyday use and your children's rehydration needs.  To read more on Performance, click Ultimate Workout Recovery Drinks.

Numerous people benefit from the Olympic quality of this rehydration drink so don't worry if you aren't an athlete of any kind or if your children aren't athletes.  During this intense heat, our bodies need hydrated long before they tell us they are thirsty so pure water is an optimal drink.  However, once our bodies begin sweating, then we not only lose fluids but also minerals and electrolytes so a workout recovery drink is essential.  Children are no different.  Lemonade, various so-called juice drinks, and sports drinks load their little bodies up with sugar or even worse sugary substitutes.  This doesn't not help them rehydrate and quite often can worsen the situation.  Their bodies are a fine tuned machine so don't clog them up with unimportant, harmful drinks.

Does anyone read the Washington Post?  How about the article about Gatorade?  Well, great minds must think alike (ha ha).  Just after writing yesterday's article, my husband was telling me about an article he had read in the Washington Post about the Gatorade not being any better than pop for an individual.   Click here to read the Washington Post's article.

Why do we have to keep inventing the wheel?  Shaklee has been around over 50 years and has proven time and time again that their natural products are superior to the other products out there:  They are tested and tested and tested.  They not only contain what is written on the label by using only the best natural  ingredients (which is more than I can say for most companies)  but also it CAN be absorbed into our bodies.  That's why we trust in Shaklee Products because they genuinely care about us.  They have the clinical studies to prove it, and they guarantee it.  Click here to Get SHAKLIZED and start feeling the difference.

Negative Effect of Pop: Are There Any or Is That Just a Myth?

Let's take a look at why soft drinks (pop, soda, sodie pop, or whatever you want to call it), are not healthy for us, especially for our children.  Unfortunately, the only good thing about pop is that it is relatively inexpensive, and it is easily accessible.  However, this is kind of a "Catch 22" because the drink that was just consumed as a treat for most children is becoming the norm.  Yes, instead of the healthy drinks like milk or water (filtered water), children - even infants - are fed pop.  I can't believe my eyes when I see this.

Let's first look at the negative effects of the pop. 1.  High in sugar - 10 teaspoons in 1 can.  2.  High in acidity 3.  Some pops reduces the absorption of calcium 4. Stains the teeth 5.  Hard on the stomach and more.  This doesn't even touch on the caffeine in the pop and what that does to the body.  Pop represents the largest single food source of calories in the U.S. diet.  Unbelievable, that we can't see how we are hurting, not treating, our children.  Maybe a coincidence or maybe not but obesity and type 2 diabetes parallels the increase in soft drink consumption.  "One study states the odds ratio of becoming obese increases 1.6 times for each additional soft drink consumed per day."

Now let's look at what we are depriving our children of when they consume a soft drink over a nutritional drink.  The children don't get vitamin D or calcium any more from the 'old fashioned normal beverage' of milk.  They don't get vitamin C and important antioxidants from the 'old fashioned normal beverage' of juice.  They don't get fluoride because they are choosing unhealthy soft drinks over water.   Just imagine what their bones will be like after having years of being deprived calcium:  now imagine these bones when they are older.

So we are hurting our children by giving them something that can actually harm their bodies; we are removing vital nutrients that would have  helped them grow mentally and physically; and we are establishing unhealthy eating habits at an incredibly young age.  Quality supplementation like Shaklee vitamins are a necessity in today's world to assure that not only these vital nutritents are added back in our children's diets but also other critical vitamins and minerals that our lost in today's hectic lifetsyles.

Don't feed your children what is easy or cheap or the fad (everyone else can have it, Mom) because it WILL hurt them if not now, when they are older.  Feed your children smart nutritious choices, healthy choices,  of foods that will help them grow physically and mentally into the best person they can be.  For smart, natural supplements that will give your child and yourself ALL the vital nutrients our bodies need and Guaranteed to feel better, click her to PROTECT OUR CHILDREN.

Just a note, if you think your child isn't consuming many soft drinks (including lemonade, pop etc), just do a quick check and record the consumption for a few months.  That'll give you a good idea just how much they really are consuming.
